Hendersonville is located within view of the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains and maintains the charm of a community that developed slowly in its early years. Settlement as the community was established was limited due to rugged terrain, limited transportation and the proximity of Native Americans. The Treaty of Hopewell in 1785 resulted in the Cherokees giving up eastern areas in their tribal lands with the boundary intersecting what is now recognized as Henderson County.

The summer temperatures in Hendersonville tend to be mild, but humidity can result in uncomfortable conditions when the mercury climbs. Summer averages are in the lower 80-degree range, but record highs of 100 in July and 101 in August reflect the potential for extremes. Winters can be particularly harsh in extreme instances, and a record low of -14 in January 1985 demonstrates just how icy the area can become. January’s average low temperature is 27 degrees.
